How to make your own ringtones for free

Introduction

This article will teach you how to get ring tones on your phone without a catch of having to buy something.

Step one

So everywhere you go there is websites that try to give you free ring tones, so you go through all the hoops and realize you only have to sign up for two clubs in order to get one lousy free ring tone. What’s the point? Well here’s a way to get ring tones to your cell phone using the CD's you already own.

Here's what you do, Open your windows sound recorder, which on most XP computers can be found by going to Start-All Programs-Accessories-Entertainment-Sound Recorder. In my opinion, the fast and easy way would be to go to Start-Search, and search for "sound recorder" and double-click on the icon that appears.

Step two

So now you have your sound recorder open. Next you want to go to your volume control. This can be found by either going to Programs-Accessories-Entertainment-volume control, or by clicking on the speaker icon on the right-hand lower corner. Once you have the volume control open you want to go to Options-Properties, than recording and select the "wave out Mix". The reason why you want to do this is because when the "wave out" is selected your computer will record anything playing on the computer. As a normal practice your computer will record whatever is plugged into the microphone port.

So now we have the Windows Sound recorder open, and we have set the volume control to "wave out" mix. Now you want to open up your music player whether it be a Windows Media Player, or itunes, and pick the song you want. So from here it gets pretty easy you’re going to go to your sound recorder press the red circle for record, than press play to play the song, and let it record the part of the song you want to have as a ring tone. Now press stop or the square once you have the part you want. A standard ring tone will be no more than 20 seconds, usually anywhere from 5-15 seconds is the norm. Now go to file-Save and save the file as "ringtone" or whatever will help you find it. Now this next part, is simple but make sure you follow it closely or it can sound more complicated than it is. Log on to your email account Yahoo, Hotmail, Aol. the easiest way to figure it out is to just email yourself a text message. So just go to your phone, go to "new text message", text "hey" or whatever you want and email it to your self. Once you get the email the "from" or "sender" will be your cell phones emails address. Your what? That's right; your camera phone has what’s called "MMS" which is "Multi-Media Service". Which basically allows your cell phone to send and receive picture messages.

Step Three

So it should look something like "7185558988@mms.mycricket.com" which is the phone number "7185558988" and the "@mms.mycricket.com" is the email service in this case Cricket Phone service uses. Others like Verizon look like 5165554944@vzwpics.com and so on. It's hard to tell which one every cell phone carrier is so it's easier just to send your self a quick email. Now, here's the last step, so hit reply, and click "add attachment" now click browse and find the song you saved earlier named "ringtone" and add it. Now hit send. With in 5 minutes you should get a new picture message from your email. Open it and you will start to hear the song. Now go to "store item" or whatever your phone give you the option to do to store the contents of the message. Now once saved, go to your settings and ringers and find your newly made ring tone, and that's it.
